While three inches may be enough for most women, in Los Angeles the rule seems the higher the better, and actress Anne Hathaway is no exception.
Despite being a respectable 5ft8in in bare feet the Devil Wears Prada star added another five inches in sky high stilettos at an awards ceremony last night. She took inspiration from fashion icon Victoria Beckham, who wore similar shoes for a trip to the shops in the city the day before.

Anne arrived for the ELLE Magazine's 15th Annual Women in Hollywood tribute at the Four Seasons Hotel in the towering stilettos, with sharp silver metal heels.
Luckily for the 25-year-old she didn't have to walk far, arriving at the glittering event by car. She teemed the maroon shoes with a blue wrap dress and tied a multi coloured scarf around her waist.
Earlier this year Anne was left devastated when her former long term boyfriend, Raffaello Follieri, was charged with federal wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering.

Last week she was finally able to joke about the relationship when she appeared on the hit U.S. show Saturday Night Live
'This summer, I broke up with my boyfriend and two weeks later he was sent to prison for fraud! I mean, we've all been there, right, ladies?' she said.
Anne then went on to say she had fallen for a Nigerian Prince who had emailed her out of the blue.
'I found this amazing new guy, we met on the internet. I usually don't read letters from strangers, but how often do you get an email for a Nigerian prince?
'He's such a sweetheart, and - not that it matters - but he's incredibly wealthy.'
She then sent up her 'princess' image in a dirty dance routine, before acting in a series of sketches.
